Expanding the Home of the Bearcats
Messer Construction, Dayton OH/USA
Nestled along the Ohio River, Cincinnati boasts a rich history of German origin and is now one of the most populous cities in Ohio. This vibrant city, drawing people from diverse backgrounds, has become a cultural hub, especially with the University of Cincinnati (UC) at its heart. Steeped in history, the University plays a pivotal role in shaping the community.
The University of Cincinnati Athletics Department, in collaboration with Messer Construction, is elevating the home of the Cincinnati Bearcats with the development of the Indoor Practice Facility and Performance Center. This project is expected to be completed by the 2025 football season, and serves as a testament to the university‘s commitment to its people and community.
The facility spanning an impressive 96,000 square feet on completion will serve as the daily hub for Cincinnati football. It will house essential amenities, including offices, nutrition stations, a dining hall, weight room, training room, and mental health services designed to enhance the overall well-being of student athletes.
Key features in the performance center facility include a state-of-the-art weight room, coaches‘ offices and player zones, advanced sports medicine and training facilities, and a team locker room with meeting spaces. The performance and nutrition center will cater to all student athletes, offering a dining hall, lounge, and outdoor activities and amenities.
Single-sided wall pour
To bring this vision to life, Messer Construction, under the leadership of Superintendent John Stafford, utilized MEVA‘s Imperial formwork and MevaLite formwork. The use of slim soldiers and waler beams was integral to tying into the earth retention system, increasing pouring capacity for the formwork panels given the project‘s scale. MEVA‘s formwork solutions enabled a successful single-sided wall pour for the facility.
MEVA‘s formwork demonstrates its adaptability to various conditions. The collaboration with Messer Construction exemplifies how customization can be seamlessly integrated into formwork setups, ensuring the success of projects in any environment. As the Cincinnati Bearcats‘ new facilities take shape, this project serves as a beacon of progress and commitment to excellence, merging history with innovation and setting a new standard for athletic facilities at the University of Cincinnati.
