The new Eglinton Crosstown Line expansion project stands at a pivotal point in connecting businesses, communities, and people in Toronto, Ontario. The new extension features Mount Pleasant Subway Station as one of twelve underground stations.

SONCIN Construction, a prominent figure in heavy civil projects since 1983, is reshaping Toronto’s urban landscape with the station. Situated at the intersection of Eglinton Ave E and Mt Pleasant Rd in downtown Toronto, this unique project involves a distinctive construction approach while using the top-down method.

Work during live traffic
Over two years ago, work on the station started by pouring a roof slab on top of shoring piles. The station was then excavated, revealing the underside of the slab, while maintaining live traffic on the city streets above. Approximately 23,000 cubic meters of concrete had been poured at completion.

SONCIN selected MEVA for this project due to the lightweight equipment and engineering technical support using BIM Modeling. The MEVA systems included MEVA32 towering at 22ft and MEP for the shoring, and walls 18 ft tall were poured using MevaLite formwork.

Versatile and efficient
Despite the unusual conditions this project involves, the shoring and workwork have been easily configurable and are lightweight enough to be transported underground, showcasing the versatility and efficiency of MEVA’s products.
