Sundre Raw Water Supply Reservoir

PKG Contracting, Inc.

The MEVA Adjustable Radius System (MAR) has been hard at work building and expanding wasterwater treatment plants across the United States – with good reason: the system is delivered completely assembled and has great flexibility to meet job requirements.

Construction started in the summer of 2017 on a raw water reservoir in Minot, North Dakota. As part of a larger overall project in the region that will eventually add two clarifiers for water treatment and increase water capacity from approximately 13-14 million gallons of water a day to 26-28 million, this phase of the project called for a 140’ diameter raw water reservoir with 24’ high walls 18’’ thick. PKG Contracting, Inc. chose MAR as the best solution for building the tank. “The system allowed us to pour 60 feet of wall at a time, and pour to full height” said Darin Pfingsten, owner of PKG. They were also able to cycle the system every day and a half, saving time.

Convincing benefits
For both projects, the contractors chose MAR because of the great advantages the system can offer in the construction of round concrete structures such as water treatment facilities. Traditional forming systems often arrive at the construction site in hundreds of pieces that require a lot of time, manpower, and parts to put together. MAR gangs are delivered completely assembled and ready for use, saving time at the construction site. For the Sundre Raw Water Supply Reservoir, each gang was delivered as an 8’ wide and 24’ tall unit that was ready for use. “We were able to unload and go,” said Pfingsten.

The ease-of-use was great. This was our first time using the system, and after 2-3 cycles we had it completely down and we were very impressed.

Saving money on shipping
Another advantage of the MAR system was the cost of return freight. Once the contractor is done using MAR, it can be disassembled and sent back to MEVA in parts – and the plywood remains with the contractor. “We saved on shipping on the way back – only spending 1/3 of the cost,” said Pfingsten. “Dean [LeClere] was a big help as well. He showed up and worked with us to show us the system, and that was much appreciated. The service was nice to get. Moving forward, we will definitely be using MEVA again.”
