Slab formwork design 2.0 with BIM²form

The design and construction of horizontal formwork are often given lower priority in CAD applications, without satisfactory automation. In tandem with its partner BIM², MEVA is looking to tap still-unexploited potential in order to boost the efficiency of building design.

How can BIM transform the way we design slab formwork?

The new MevaDec generation impresses by its low weight, ease of cleaning and optimised handling features. The system caters for three slab-forming methods that need to be factored into contract planning: the drop-head-beam-panel method, panel method and primary-and-secondary-beam method. The cost-effective MevaFlex slab formwork system allows flexible planning based on either a purely conventional approach or a combined solution with MevaDec.

In future, both products will be integrated in the BIM²form Revit® add-in that will allow the digital modelling and addition of real-life features.

The high flexibility of the systems, in terms of their three-dimensional adaptability and the different slab-forming methods mentioned above, is both a blessing and a challenge. As the contract planning process lays the foundations for efficient, process-oriented site operations, MEVA is now partnering BIM² on the development of digital solutions to automate and optimise slab formwork design.

The BIM²form formwork design tool

BIM²form – an add-in for Autodesk® Revit®, the industry’s leading technology platform – is the key tool for the digital design of MEVA formwork solutions. A command portfolio allowing automated formwork design directly in Revit® paves the way for intelligent, integral construction processes.

With a soon-to-be-released software update, BIM² will provide an initial version with extended design functionality for horizontal components in BIM²form. The relevant slab formwork design options are integrated in the existing functions and thus serve as an ideal aid for users in the planning process.

How will the automated design process work?

As is already possible with vertical components for walls, provision will be made for the combined horizontal placement of numerous parts and elaboration of the details with natively modelled Revit® content. In future, only eight clicks will be needed for the step-by-step, automated design of MevaDec formwork solutions: specification of base and target level, specification of size and orientation, and definition of layout appendix. Additional intelligent functions are available to simplify processing of the remaining edge areas.

BIM² adheres to an open innovation concept that promotes the continuous improvement of existing functions and the integration of new ideas. All users are invited to discover and help refine BIM²form under the banner “Innovation by technicians for technicians”.
