Saving time with Mammut XT

Contractor: Hächler AG, Wettingen

In the Swiss town of Wettingen a commercial building is being constructed with five storeys and heights ranging from 3.2 to 4.7 m. The local construction company Hächler AG is using the Mammut XT wall formwork system and BKB folding access platforms from MEVA.

Single-sided tying pays off in Aargau project

To build the straight wall surfaces, the team led by Dario Scimonetti, Hächler’s director of building construction and civil engineering, and foreman Oliver Urech used 375 m² of Mammut XT panels from the company’s own stock. A year earlier, Hächler AG was still renting the formwork with the durable and easily repairable alkus all-plastic facing fitted as standard, and found the advantages so convincing that it decided to buy the system outright. Since then, the formwork – with the integrated combination tie hole for three tying methods in one system – is being used in numerous projects that require simple and flexible large-scale formwork to produce attractive concrete finishes.

One of the challenges during the project in Wettingen was the tight schedule. The building shell had to be finished within six months. To save time, the single-sided tying using the XT taper tie was an obvious choice. The combination tie holes with their rotating spheres were set to suit the requirements in next to no time. It was now possible to perform the forming work swiftly – without the time-consuming use of flange nuts, plastic tubes, tools and scaffolds on the initial-formwork side.

As the combination tie hole is integrated flush with the surface, the formwork panels can be stacked without having to remove protruding parts beforehand. The panel dimensions and the symmetrically offset tie holes result in a uniform tie hole and joint pattern for exacting aesthetic expectations – also on architectural concrete.

Safe working conditions at all times
24 BKB folding access platforms from MEVA ensured safe working conditions at all times during the project in Wettingen. The BKB is ready for use in a short space of time, as it unfolds when lifted, hooks onto the wall formwork by means of self-locking suspensions and immediately guarantees comfortable working conditions on 125 cm wide and 140-300 cm long platforms. In combination with Mammut XT, Hächler AG profited from an ideal solution for rapid construction progress.
