Modern home for gymnasts
Contractor: Treier AG, Schinznach-Dorf
In Lenzburg something really spectacular has been created for a large number of gymnasts from the Swiss canton Aargau: The gymnastics centre, which opened on schedule, is a purpose-built facility built with loving attention to detail and with high architectural concrete walls that were erected rapidly by the construction company Treier AG using Mammut XT formwork.
Gymnasts in the Aargau are now training in the new “Magnesiaklotz”
The gymnast’s new home in the region is referred to, rather unflatteringly but with affection, as the “Magnesiaklotz”. This is because the simple form of the building’s white outer shell symbolises one of those blocks of magnesium carbonate chalk which gymnasts rub into their hands before performing their exercises. The sports centre is a purpose-built construction whose design has been kept relatively simple but which is nevertheless bathed in ample ambient light, spacious and modern. The outer walls in architectural concrete quality poured with aplomb by the Treier team fit in well in this overall design.
67.5 m² poured in each cycle
Treier AG rented high-performance Mammut XT wall formwork from MEVA with a total panel area of only 202 m² – ideal for large-format construction. That was enough to achieve rapid construction progress in conjunction with high quality. Nine panels with a width of 2.50 m and a height of 3.00 m were assembled into units. After a short assembly phase, the team led by construction manager Roman Wernli and foreman Nicolas Smolders were thus able to pour the outer walls in cycles with a width of 7.5 m and a height of 9 m, i.e. 67.5 m² per cycle – in architectural concrete quality 2+, mind you. Treier was supported on-site by MEVA’s formwork specialist Stefan Schlatter in order to achieve optimum results by means of concrete pressure measurements and the optimisation of the rate of placing. An advantage here proved to be the fact that Mammut XT is able to withstand a fresh-concrete pressure of 100 kN/m² over the entire surface. MEVA Switzerland also provided support during the formwork planning.
Gymnasts and customer all satisfied
The gymnastics center in Lenzburg opened on schedule in March 2023. Since then, a large number of talented gymnasts have been making use of the “Magnesiaklotz”, which offers modern infrastructure for up-and-coming and top-class gymnasts: with a 1,900 m² gym; numerous rooms and halls for other related sporting activities; physiotherapy, seminar, meeting, and conference rooms; and offices.
The construction company Treier is also happy with the result.
“Using Mammut XT wall formwork, we were able to significantly reduce the construction time of the high concrete walls and still achieve the desired surface finish. The end product convinced both the principle and the construction management. We are proud of our work and the result. Will will certainly use MEVA’s Mammut XT again in future and thus master exciting tasks.”
