Construction of a school extension
Contractor: TRS-Bau, Lüdenscheid, Germany
For some time now, pupils at the comprehensive school in the town of Iserlohn in Germany have been taught in containers. That will soon come to an end. A few weeks ago, the topping-out ceremony was held for a new school building that was completed on schedule and to the desired quality by the construction company TRS-Bau.
TRS-Bau finishes building shell on time and in the desired quality
The Iserlohn comprehensive school has grown significantly. The floor area of the existing building has been extended by 6,600 m² up to 12,500 m². The usable area of the new, three-storey structure is 3,100 m². The building consists of classrooms and offices, open study areas and a spacious auditorium – an open, two-storey-high hall with mezzanine for events with up to 500 visitors.
TRS-Bau, an experienced construction company based in Lüdenscheid, Germany, rented formwork from the systems AluStar and Mammut 350 as well as 25 running metres of the folding working platform KAB 190 from MEVA in order to construct the school building’s foundations and walls safely and comfortably using in-situ concrete.
AluStar for the foundations
The crane-independent universal formwork AluStar was predestined for the construction of the strip foundations. The team from TRS-Bau employed the system in conjunction with foundation tapes, which simplify and speed up the work by enabling the formwork to be quickly closed using a tensioner for foundation tape. Anchors are not required in the concrete. The floor slab was also constructed using the robust aluminium formwork, which is equipped with ergonomic grip profiles and able to withstand a fresh-concrete pressure of 60 kN/m². With its power-coated aluminium frame, AluStar is the performance-to-weight champion in the MEVA formwork portfolio.
As always, we were totally satisfied with the cooperation with MEVA and the successful use of the formwork.

In two cycles to a wall height of 8 m
The construction of the architectural-concrete walls in SB2 quality up to a height of 8 m in two cycles presented no challenge for the heavy-duty formwork Mammut 350. During the second vertical cycle, the folding working platform KAB was used to support the formwork.
The working and safety scaffold with integrated platform planking and folding railing can be employed straight from the stack in a straightforward and economical way without assembly work. It can be assembled on-site intuitively and without tools or loose parts. The formwork can be placed on the platform and also supported by it.
